What can fathers do to spend quality time with their kids?
Fathers need to be around their children
How can fathers make the most of their time with their kids?
It's not only the mothers but also the fathers whose lives change after they become parents. What with the increasing financial responsibilities, to be around their children and wives, dads can get pretty stressed. To top it all, they have to make sure that they make the most of their time with their kids!
First things first, do not panic. List down the activities you can engage in with your kids (depending on their age) while you are with them. It can be anything from nappy changing, feeding, toilet training, putting them to sleep, teaching them to take their first steps to playing sports, reading, painting, etc, the list is endless.
The objective is to be involved, give your full attention while you are with your children They are quite perceptive and your lack of concentration can be easily picked up by them and they might get irritable. Even if you get to spend 10 minutes a day, utilise it to the full.
Fathers should help mums in small ways. This provides relief to the mothers to a large extent, after all, they too need a breather. Serve dinner, clean after it, play with the children while mums can devote some time to their personal care. A mother needs to feel and look good too, for her own sake. A constant dishevelled state, may add to the general stress.
Remember, parenthood is not a state of agitation, it is to be enjoyed. Prioritise work, try to strike a balance. A crying child or a cranky baby should not distress you, stay calm and try to instill this same quality in your children too. Don't forget, they will imitate you.
Focus on your kids when your are with them. Leave work pressure at the threshold, try not to think about it when around your kids. Smile as much as you can, laugh and talk a lot with your kids, keep a cheerful tone, be happy and enjoy each precious moment!
A happy parent means a happy and secure child.
